Customs proposes a new electronic entry type for mail packages valued at $2,500 or less, with filing due on arrival, a tracking number and a bond
U.S. Customs and Border Protection proposed a rule October 8 that would require electronic filing, a bond and a carrier-reported tracking number for low-value shipments — goods whose shipment value is $2,500 or less — including a new entry type for those arriving by mail. Packages would need to be entered before or on arrival instead of within 15 days, and an unentered mail article would be treated as abandoned after 15 days. Comments are due by December 7, 2026.
