FDA announced October 14 that it is beginning work on a rare-disease framework tailored to small patient populations, disease characteristics and the evidence available for a product. An October 28 meeting at its White Oak campus is planned as an early step. The announcement begins a development process; it does not approve a drug or establish a final regulatory framework.
