NRC final rule lets reactor applicants reference prior federal authorizations while retaining independent safety reviews
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's final rule establishes an explicit route for commercial reactor applicants to use relevant information from facilities previously authorized by the Energy or Defense departments, tested and shown able to function safely. Applicants must identify how that information satisfies NRC requirements, and the agency says its independent review remains. The rule is scheduled for October 26 publication; November 25 effectiveness is counted from the inspection copy's bracket and supplied in Register metadata.
