Hugin
A midnight studio with a chrome arch marked 10.27, a reflective floor, an audio sculpture, a cipher panel, two source-linked spheres and an orbital world portal.

Make a fuck ton of noise

3 min read

Actual still exported from Hugin's original birthday studio. Browser-rendered showcase artwork, not documentary imagery or footage of the AEVUM world.

Fuck cruelty. Fuck corruption. Make something worth sharing. After seven months of building, my birthday invitation is a full-screen studio: shape the sound, reveal a note once, inspect an actual source, and find the door to the world preview.

Some people use power to make everybody else feel small. Be quiet. Take what you're given. Don't ask what the money bought, who got hurt, or why the rules seem to work differently for the people writing them.

Fuck that.

I want more people making things, asking questions and taking up space. I want less cruelty, less corruption, and less of the polite language that makes either one sound inevitable. Those are my politics: human dignity, freedom, peace, and a fair shot at a decent life.

It's my birthday. After seven months of building, I'm opening a few doors.

One screen. Four doors. A command line that actually does things. Choose sound at the entrance, or enter quietly and explore.

In the music room, there are four voices to work with. Move the channel faders, shift the balance between beat and melody, change the tempo and keep four bars of your mix as a WAV. The chrome sculpture carries a waveform measured from the sound being played. The audio is generated here, with no uploaded recording or paid generation call.

In the Wisp room, write a short note and seal it. Wisp's browser cryptography encrypts it locally; the one-time reveal decrypts it for eight seconds before this view closes. Nothing is sent from this demonstration. Screenshots remain possible. For sending a real message, follow the link to Wisp and read its own privacy and deletion limits.

In the Hugin room, pull a thread. The examples are actual dated records from the existing source-linked catalog, including the difference between ownership and voting control. Each carries its source, its snapshot period and its limits. Open the original record if you want to challenge the claim. A few selected disclosures don't make a complete map of power, and a connection isn't a verdict.

The world door opens the actual AEVUM preview, through its existing access permissions. The studio's chrome architecture is original showcase artwork. It isn't a recording or a replica of that world.

What the doors are for

I want people to have more agency over what they make, say and understand. Music is one way in. Communication with room for privacy is another. So is being able to check the record when someone with power tells you how things are.

I operate Hugin and have a commercial interest in the projects linked from the studio, including Cairn. This is my birthday invitation, with that interest in the open.

Cairn is the membership we're building around people, projects and learning to make. It is still in private preview: the membership page requires an access code, and enrollment is not open yet. You can ask about the founding membership through Hugin's existing public contact address. The birthday studio is free and doesn't unlock another product's permissions.

My birthday ask

Try a room. Make a mix. Open a source. Send somebody the studio link if they'd enjoy a turn.

If something gets in your way, tell me what you tried through Hugin's support page. I want the work to earn your interest through things you can actually do.

Fuck cruelty. Fuck corruption. Put something better into the world.
