Hugin exists because public threads can look convincing before anyone has time to check the structure around them. A Reddit post can sound authentic while the visible public activity around it shows a reply ring, shared identifiers, reused promotion links, or a cluster of accounts that only appear inside that one thread.
The scanner turns those public signals into a report a person can inspect and, when useful, share back into the conversation. Hugin does not auto-reply to Reddit. A Hugin comment should mean a person ran the scan, reviewed the result, and chose to post the report link.
What the scanner checks
For Reddit reports, Hugin looks at the public post body, visible public comments, account-age context, the reply graph, shared external identifiers, recent posting history, and writing-style signals when enough text is available.
Those signals are strongest when they agree with each other. For example, a shared Telegram handle across multiple commenters is more meaningful than a vague "this feels weird" reaction. A reply ring matters more when the same accounts also share links, arrive together, or have narrow recent histories.
What it does not claim
Hugin should not claim motive, identity, guilt, or intent from a Reddit thread. It also should not treat a username style as evidence by itself.
That last point matters. Reddit has many accounts with random-looking or auto-generated handles. A name shaped like two words plus numbers might be ordinary. It only becomes useful context when stronger public signals are already present, such as timing, reply structure, shared identifiers, or same-hand writing signals. If those stronger signals are missing, username shape should not carry the verdict.
Why the public comment says so much
The Reddit-ready comment is intentionally a little longer than a drive-by warning. It includes the report link, the visible public signals checked, the data source, and the guardrails. That makes the comment easier to challenge: readers can open the report, check the evidence rows, and decide whether the scan is persuasive.
The goal is not to dunk on people. The goal is to give careful readers a faster way to separate visible structure from vibes.
The product direction
Hugin should keep moving toward quieter labels, stronger receipts, and clearer limits. Reports should make it obvious when a source was unavailable, when a finding is only contextual, and when a public post simply does not have enough evidence for a stronger conclusion.
That is the bar: useful in public, careful with people, and transparent enough that a skeptical reader can inspect the work instead of trusting a black box.
