CPSC's October 22 warning covers about 237 Reliancer adult portable bed rails sold on Amazon. The agency says users can become trapped and die from asphyxiation, and the rails also present a fall hazard. It urges owners to stop using and dispose of them. Reliancer has not responded to requests to conduct a recall or offer a remedy, CPSC says.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging people to immediately stop using and dispose of Reliancer adult portable bed rails, saying they pose entrapment, asphyxiation and fall hazards. Its October 22 warning covers about 237 rails.

The agency says the retailer has not responded to its requests to conduct a recall or offer consumers a remedy. The warning does not announce a refund or replacement program.

The hazards CPSC identifies

When attached to a bed, the rails can trap a user either within the rail or between the rail and the side of the mattress, CPSC says. The agency describes a risk of serious injury or death from entrapment and asphyxiation.

It also says the rails do not meet the mandatory standard's structural stability or retention strap requirements, creating a fall hazard. Required hazard warning labels are missing, according to the notice.

The notice lists no reported incidents or injuries. That is the reporting status given in the warning, alongside the agency's finding that the rails violate the mandatory standard for adult portable bed rails.

Identify the rails

The products have white tubing, black foam rubber handle grips and a black storage pocket. The brand name Reliancer is printed on the pocket. CPSC gives approximate dimensions of 26.4 inches wide by 38.6 inches tall and a weight of about 5 pounds; the source page also has a product photograph.

They were sold on Amazon from August 2023 through September 2026 for about $45. CPSC identifies the retailer as Ningbo Beitao Trading Co., Ltd., doing business as Reliancer, of China.

What owners are told to do

CPSC says to stop using the rails immediately, dispose of them, and neither sell nor give them away. It asks people who experienced a safety incident to report it through its SaferProducts reporting service.

The agency says it issued a Notice of Violation to Reliancer. Its public warning records an unanswered request for a recall and remedy, rather than a retailer's agreed return process.
