Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global is live this weekend, and this year's event is unusually easy to recommend. It is free for every Trainer, runs for nine hours on both Saturday and Sunday, brings Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y into the game, gives everyone a Special Research path to Zeraora, and rotates all 18 Pokémon types through six readable three-hour blocks.

The short version: log in during the weekend so the Zeraora research attaches to your account, choose the Mewtwo form you care about most, use your free raid passes, and do not let the huge raid pool distract you from the things that are actually new or difficult to replace.

When it runs and what is free

GO Fest Global runs Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time each day. The event is free for the first time in GO Fest history. The official page says the former ticket-holder exclusives — Special Research, added bonuses, and an increased Shiny chance — are available to all Trainers who log in during the event weekend.

The most important login receipt is Zeraora. The Special Research does not expire after you receive it, so opening the game this weekend matters even if you cannot complete the story immediately. Trainers who already received Zeraora at Tokyo, Chicago, or Copenhagen get Zeraora Candy instead.

The two-day priority list

If time is limited, use this order:

  1. Log in and secure the Zeraora Special Research. This is the new Mythical debut and the least replaceable reward.
  2. Complete enough branching Timed Research to choose Mega Mewtwo X or Y. The branch helps frame which form to prioritize first.
  3. Raid Mega Mewtwo X on Saturday and Mega Mewtwo Y on Sunday. Every Mewtwo caught from a Super Mega Raid has at least one Mega Level unlocked and can Mega Evolve into the defeated form without the normal initial energy cost.
  4. Spend the free daily passes. Trainers can receive up to nine free Raid Passes per day by spinning Gym Photo Discs.
  5. Use Incense for All Unown forms, Tropius, and Bouffalant. The official page excludes Daily Adventure Incense from this event pool.
  6. Target the type blocks that solve a medal, candy, evolution, or Shiny goal. The event is too large to catch everything with equal attention.

Sunday headline raid: Mega Mewtwo Y in Super Mega Raids.

Mega Mewtwo is the center of the weekend

Super Mega Raids are meant for coordinated groups. The official preparation guide recommends several Trainers with at least one Mega-Evolved Pokémon in their battle parties. These raids can appear only at certain Gyms, so the official map and Campfire are more useful than wandering and hoping.

The reward design is excellent. A caught Mewtwo has at least Mega Level 1 already unlocked, might arrive at Mega Level 2 or 3, and can Mega Evolve into the form you defeated without the initial energy charge. The raid still awards the corresponding Mega Energy. Mewtwo from these raids is also more likely to have high Attack, Defense, and HP, and may carry a special event background.

If you can play only one day, choose by form preference and local group availability. If you can play both, get enough energy and at least one strong candidate for each form before farming the giant legacy raid pool.

The rest of the bonuses

During event hours, all Trainers receive one-hour Lure Modules, special Incense encounters, nine-hour Party Play, increased Shiny odds, hourly type-based Field Research, Global Challenges, Zeraora Special Research, and the Mega Mewtwo branching Timed Research.

Across the full event days, Trainers can get up to nine free Raid Passes per day, make up to six Special Trades, trade for half the normal Stardust cost, and open up to 50 Gifts. The no-limit Remote Raid Pass window runs through Sunday, July 12. Premier Balls are more effective after raids, and Party Power charges faster.

Costume collectors also get Team Instinct, Mystic, and Valor Hat Pikachu, plus Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle wearing Pikachu visors. Those three starters can evolve. Incense adds all Unown forms, Tropius, and Bouffalant.

A practical preparation checklist

  • Clear Pokémon storage before leaving home; raid catches and the 18-type wild rotation fill space quickly.
  • Stock healing items, especially if Super Mega Raids are the priority.
  • Build Dark-, Ghost-, or Bug-type Mewtwo counters and bring a useful Mega.
  • Decide Saturday X versus Sunday Y before the first raid train.
  • Keep enough item space to spin Gyms for the daily free passes.
  • Use Campfire or the official event map to find Super Mega Gyms and community meetups.
  • Carry water, a battery, sun protection, and a weather-safe backup route.
  • Check the in-game Today view because live events can change after an article is published.

Why this year's implementation feels A+

That final judgment is Hugin's editorial read, not an official claim. But the design earns it.

The event has a clear new center — Mega Mewtwo and Zeraora — without placing the center behind a ticket. The three-hour blocks are long enough to plan around, the full 18-type structure gives collectors and medal hunters a reason to care about every block, and the free-pass/trade/gift bonuses support how people actually play together. The raid pool is enormous, but the Saturday X and Sunday Y split keeps the most important choice understandable.

Most importantly, the mechanics reinforce the anniversary instead of merely branding it. The free event, nine-hour days, 10th-anniversary backgrounds, global challenges, community meetups, and pre-unlocked Mega Levels all reduce friction at the moment the game is asking millions of people to show up together. That is good live-event implementation.
