Amazon Bedrock ends its own Nova Canvas and Nova Reel models on September 30, Mistral's changelog retires Leanstral 1.5 the same day, and Microsoft's schedule retires its own three MAI-Image-2.5 models on October 1, 47 days after two older MAI-Image models retired with two of them listed as the replacements; none of the three companies' retirement pages names a successor.

Three providers end AI models this week, and none of their retirement pages has a replacement named. Amazon Bedrock's lifecycle table gives its own Nova Canvas image model and Nova Reel video model (amazon.nova-canvas-v1:0, amazon.nova-reel-v1:0 and v1:1) an end-of-life date of September 30, 2026, on or soon after which Bedrock says requests will fail; the table has no replacement column and neither model card names one. Mistral's changelog says the free Lean 4 proof model Leanstral 1.5 (labs-leanstral-1-5) 'will be retired on September 30, 2026', while its models page still lists it as a current model. Microsoft's Foundry retirement schedule, last updated September 21, retires its own Preview models MAI-Image-2.5, MAI-Image-2.5-Flash and MAI-Image-2.5-Pro on October 1 with a dash in the replacement column, although the same schedule lists two of them as the replacements for MAI-Image-2 and MAI-Image-2e, which retired on August 15. Microsoft's MAI image how-to page lists two newer Preview models, MAI-Image-2.6 and MAI-Image-2.6-Flash, without calling them replacements. Kimi-K2.7-Code follows on Foundry on October 3. Microsoft says Preview dates are sometimes extended. Hugin did not test whether any of these models still answers.

If you build with Amazon's Nova Canvas image generator, its Nova Reel video generator, Mistral's free Leanstral 1.5 proof model or Microsoft's MAI-Image-2.5 image models, your requests are scheduled to stop working on Wednesday or Thursday. None of the three providers names a replacement on the pages Hugin read.

Amazon: Nova Canvas and Nova Reel, Wednesday

Amazon's Bedrock lifecycle table shows Nova Canvas (amazon.nova-canvas-v1:0) and both versions of Nova Reel (amazon.nova-reel-v1:0 and amazon.nova-reel-v1:1) entering Legacy status on March 30, 2026 and reaching end of life on September 30. Canvas makes images from prompts; Reel makes short videos. What the date means:

On, or soon after the EOL date, the model is no longer available for use in all AWS Regions and requests made to this version will fail, unless there is a private arrangement between you and the provider for continued access.

Bedrock adds: "Migration will not happen automatically." The table has no replacement column, and neither model card names a successor. Amazon's Nova user guide pages for both models carry no end-of-life notice.

Microsoft: MAI-Image-2.5, Thursday

Microsoft's Foundry retirement schedule, last updated September 21, lists its own image models MAI-Image-2.5, MAI-Image-2.5-Flash and MAI-Image-2.5-Pro to retire on October 1. All three are Preview models. The replacement column holds a dash.

Below them, MAI-Image-2 and MAI-Image-2e are marked Retired on August 15, with MAI-Image-2.5 and MAI-Image-2.5-Flash as their replacements. So the replacements Microsoft named are scheduled to retire 47 days after the models they replaced, with nothing named in turn.

Microsoft's MAI image how-to page, also updated September 21, does list two newer Preview models, MAI-Image-2.6 and MAI-Image-2.6-Flash, but does not call them replacements; the schedule has no row for either.

Microsoft's lifecycle policy says Preview models launch with a not-sooner-than retirement date, typically 90 days out, and "are sometimes extended beyond that initial window". If the date holds with no replacement, "customers get 30 days notice before the model retires and inference returns 410 Gone", an error meaning the model is gone.

The same schedule retires Moonshot AI's Kimi-K2.7-Code, another Preview model Azure sells, on October 3, also with a dash. GitHub, which drops the same model from its Copilot coding assistant on October 2, suggests Kimi K3 instead.

Mistral: Leanstral 1.5, Wednesday

Leanstral 1.5 writes formal proofs in the Lean 4 language. Hugin's deadline board has carried its date since September 27, and Mistral's pages still disagree. The changelog entry of June 30 says of labs-leanstral-1-5: "This model will be retired on September 30, 2026". The models page still lists it under "Other specialist models", not in its table of deprecated and retired models. The model's own page gives no retirement date, and the launch post calls it "a free API endpoint" without mentioning one.

The board did not carry Mistral's own rule: "Deprecation is announced as soon as a replacement model is available." No replacement is named. Once a model is retired, the policy says, "requests to its identifiers fail with a 404 error." The weights stay on Hugging Face under an Apache 2.0 license, so anyone with the hardware can keep running it.

What to do

  • September 30: move off Nova Canvas, Nova Reel and labs-leanstral-1-5.
  • October 1: move off the three MAI-Image-2.5 models.
  • October 2 and 3: Kimi K2.7 Code leaves Copilot, then Foundry.
  • Pick and test a successor yourself. Only GitHub, for Kimi, has named one.

What the record does not say

  • Whether any of these models still answers, or will stop on schedule. Hugin did not call them; every date is the provider's.
  • Whether Microsoft sent the 30-day notice its policy describes, or will extend the Preview dates.
  • Which of its pages Mistral will follow, whether MAI-Image-2.6 is Microsoft's intended successor, or why no provider names a replacement.
  • What Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.1 will cost on Bedrock from October 8, when the same table moves it into "public extended access" and users "should expect higher pricing, which will be set by the model provider". Bedrock's extended-access price table lists only two Claude 3.5 Sonnet models. Anthropic's Claude models help draft Hugin records; Anthropic gets the same scrutiny as everyone else.
