OpenAI's September 29 DevDay introduces Dots, persistent agents designed to carry ongoing responsibilities across connected tools. The launch describes a cloud computer, remembered context and proactive work.
A longer-running responsibility
A dot can keep an assignment moving between conversations. Setup documentation describes goals, connected apps, delegated work and activity review. Connecting a tool does not remove the need to define what the agent may do.
Pro and Business Premium availability depends on market eligibility. Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare workspaces require an administrator to enable the beta. A primary dot is included; the launch says delegated Work and Codex tasks still consume their usual allowance.
The surrounding tools
DevDay also brings reusable cloud development environments, plugin interfaces, event-triggered automations and shared Pages and Spaces. Together they create more places for an agent to receive work and leave something a person can review.
For builders, the useful question is concrete: which responsibility can persist, which action needs approval, and where does the finished work land? An always-on agent is not a guarantee of autonomous income.
