Treasury proposes rules for large home investors before January purchase ban
Treasury proposed definitions and exceptions October 23 for the ROAD Act's restriction on large investors buying single-family homes. The statute's purchase prohibition takes effect January 7, 2027; the proposed rule is open for comments through November 23. Its terms address investor control, rental construction and renovation, and contracts intended to help tenants buy homes.

A housing rule needs a public ownership trail
I want restrictions on institutional homebuying backed by a public account of who controls the portfolios and how exceptions are used. Treasury's new proposal and GAO's limited ownership data make the case for putting that reporting burden on institutions while protecting the people living in the homes.
