Maine's federal commercial summer flounder landings close October 13 after the state quota is harvested
NMFS says Maine's 2026 commercial summer flounder quota has been harvested. Its temporary rule closes landings in Maine by federally permitted commercial vessels from 0001 hours October 13 through December 31, unless a quota transfer makes more available. The action concerns a particular commercial fishery and landing state; it is not a nationwide flounder ban or a finding that seafood already sold is unsafe.

NOAA sets groundfish gear markings and allows fewer vertical lines, on different timelines
A final rule for West Coast groundfish pot and bottom longline gear combines mandatory markings with voluntary entanglement-risk measures. Publication is scheduled for October 13. The main effective date is January 11, 2027 by the desk's count and Register metadata, while two provisions start on publication. The rule separately prints January 11, 2030 for its manufactured-line compliance requirement.
