Minutes of the Fed's FOMC show a unanimous 12-0 vote in September to raise the federal funds target range to 3-3/4 to 4 percent

The Federal Reserve released minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee's September 15-16 meeting on October 7. They show all 12 voting members supported raising the target range for the federal funds rate a quarter percentage point, to 3-3/4 to 4 percent, effective September 17, with none voting against. The minutes record one vote but different reasons: many participants called the higher path prudent on risk-management grounds, a number called it necessary on their own forecasts, and most assessed another increase would likely be appropriate by year end.

Treasury holds the ICE immigration bond interest rate at 3 percent, but for the second year the October window runs four months instead of three

The Treasury Department set the interest rate on cash deposited with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to secure an immigration bond at 3 percent a year, unchanged, for October 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027. That is the second year running the October notice has covered four months instead of the three-month calendar quarter used in every October notice from 2015 through 2024. The notice does not say why, and does not say how or when a depositor collects the interest.

The Federal Reserve raised interest rates a quarter point on September 16, to a range of 3.75 to 4 percent, by a unanimous vote. Its own projections put one more increase on the table before the year ends.

The Federal Open Market Committee raised the federal funds target range by a quarter point to 3-3/4 to 4 percent on September 16, 2026, voting 12 to 0. In July it had held the rate, with three members dissenting in favour of a hike. The statement's reason fits in three words, 'Inflation remains elevated', and it says the increase 'will support a timelier return' to the 2 percent goal. The Fed's projections raised its median inflation estimate for 2026 to 3.7 percent and its median year-end rate to 4.1 percent, up from 3.8 in June. Twelve of the 18 officials put the rate at 4.125 percent at the end of 2026, a quarter point above where it now sits. The next meeting is October 27 and 28. The Fed's documents say nothing about what this means for mortgages, credit cards or savings.
